The time-honoured and renowned university city of Goettingen lies in the very heart of Germany, in the southern part of Lower Saxony. Protected by its mediaeval city walls, the historic Old Town is characterised by its splendid buildings, dating from the Middle Ages up to modern times. In its centre stands the symbol of the city of Goettingen, the fountain in the market square with "the Goose Girl", a bronze Jugendstil figure, who doctoral candidates traditionally have to kiss on the cheek after passing their exams, and who thus has become the "most kissed girl in the world". For hundreds of years, Goettingen has been the University town par excellence for youngsters from all over the world. Over 40 Nobel Prizewinners from all parts of the globe, have either studied or worked in Goettingen. Urbanity, modernity, youthfulness and dedication to research make up that special Goettingen charm, to which theatre, a symphony orchestra, galleries, museums, jazz clubs and pubs all contribute.
The School The F+U premises are in Goethe Allee, only a five-minute walk, either from the town centre or from the railway station. In this very building , 170 years ago, lived the Brothers Grimm, authors of the world-famous collection of German fairy tales and of the famous German Dictionary. Modern, well-equipped rooms with a pleasant atmosphere and computerised learning aids await you. Without further ado, you can practice your newly-acquired German in the busy town as soon as you step out of the classroom. All the facilities in the town are open to you and to the other 24000 students who call this their home. Tuition The F+U Goettingen School uses textbooks from various well-known publishers, as well as material it prepares itself: some are available for use in the school. For studying on their own, we recommend students to get their own copy. Additional audiovisual materials and other learning programmes are available in the school. The ZD (Preliminary German) Exam can be taken in the school, the ZMP (Intermediate German) Exam can be taken at the Goethe Institut in Goettingen on payment of an additional fee. The DSH (German for University Admission) Exam is taken at Goettingen University. The teachers at our school are graduates of the internationally-renowned course in German as a Foreign Language at Kassel University, and thus specially trained to deal with foreign language learners. Generally, there are 5 to 10 participants per class; the teaching is carried out 5 hours per day, four days a week. In addition, there is a class on the 5th day at the F+U premises for self-study with a F+U tutor present to help.
